- I owned a boat in New Orleans for a couple of years but had to sell it before moving to NYC. It was a 1969 Southcoast 23' masthead sloop and I sailed it primarily on Lake Pontchartrain which is a weird environment. It's shallow water but very open and, being by the gulf coast, storms can come up on you quickly. The shallowness comes into play because waves don't have much space to move under the surface so it is choppier than a lot of bodies of water as a result.
I had a phenomenal time owning the boat though and am just looking to get back on the water here in NYC!
